Boaz and Rina
Fullfilment of a life-long dream
Boaz and Rina originally hail from South Africa but Israel has been their home since 1996. In 2006 Boaz and Rina left the Gaza perimeter and headed south to Be'er Milka, a new moshav, in the Negev Highlands.
With not much more than a vision and a fair share of life experience, Boaz and Rina embarked on the move to the Moshav. In the early days Boaz was making shofars and Rina was working with the children of the moshav.
The vision of the vineyard was never forgotten and in 2013 our first planting became a reality. At the same time, Rina was suffering with arthritis in her hands and was looking for a natural remedy that would ease the pain in her hands. This led to research about the efficacy of essential oils in the treatment of arthritis. Our results were encouraging and we starting growing small quantities of herbs and producing essential oils from them. The rest is already history, the Negev Essence brand of essential oils is well established and we are helping people from all over the world with our products.
We planted our first vines at the end of the summer of 2012. In May 2013 we had a locust invasion and the entire vineyard of new vines was destroyed. Refusing to surrender to the invasion, we replanted the vineyard in July 2013.
All praise goes to HASHEM, the one who never slumbers or sleeps, that we were blessed to have our first harvest in the summer of 2016. We planted Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. As we elected to have the Ramat Negev winery produce single vineyard wines for us, the 2016 harvest saw only Shiraz and Merlot being produced as we were not satisfied with the maturity of the Cabernet. 2017 saw all three varieties being mature enough for single vineyard wines.
