Shiba - Artemisia Arborescens

Shiba -known in English as Mugwort -Artemisia arborescens is a morphologically variable species with grey-green to silver leaves. It is native to the various habitats of the Mediterranean region, where it occurs as a shrub growing up to one meter in height. According to popular folklore, it is used as an anti-inflammatory remedy and is a very common anthelmintic* drug in most North African and Middle Eastern countries.

Despite an almost unfortunate sounding name, mugwort, or shiba, is an herb which has been used in alternative medicine for hundreds of years. It may not be your first choice when considering supplementing your current therapies with essential oils, but there are many proven benefits and uses of mugwort essential oil that make it worth looking past the name.
